Cowboy Silhouette Match ( Time to be determined, see Schedule )

This is an NRA affiliated match, all NRA rules apply.

A Texas Peacemakers Cowboy Silhouette Match will offer two NRA categories;

Smallbore Cowboy Rifle Silhouette (registration beginning at 9:00 AM)

Pistol Cartridge Cowboy Lever Action Silhouette (registration beginning at 1:00 PM)

NRA classifications: B - A - AA - AAAMaster or Unclassified

Shooters are rated 'Unclassified' for the first NRA match they shoot in a given category at any range. Unclassified shooters will compete for rank only against other Unclassified shooters. Their score will then place them in one of the NRA skill level classifications for the next time they shoot that category. Shooters will always compete only against shooters in their own skill class, in each category shot. An individual’s skill classification may be different for different categories.

Classification:

    Master           37 - 40

    AAA              31 - 36

     AA                25 - 30

      A                 15 - 24

      B                  0 - 14

Rear sights may be open sights, receiver or tang sights manufactured for the rifle they are mounted on. Front sights must be a post or bead, may be hooded or if interchangeable may use post inserts only.

No firearms with optical or telescopic sights shall be used. Shooting sticks shall not be used. Slings shall not be used as a brace.

Binoculars may be used for spotting. Spotting scopes or stands may not be used. No shooting jackets, shooting vests, or gloves will be allowed.

Competitors will shoot off-hand from a standing position (entirely unsupported). Shooters shall not contact anything but their feet on the ground while firing, in other words - take no rest of any kind.

 A Smallbore Cowboy Rifle is a lever action, pump, or semi automatic rimfire rifle with a tubular magazine in .22 LR caliber (only). No .22 Magnum caliber firearms are allowed in this category.

A Pistol Cartridge Cowboy Lever Action rifle is a lever action rifle with a tubular magazine. A rimmed pistol cartridge loaded with a flat nosed bullet must be used such as 25-20, 32-20, 38 Special, 357 Magnum, 38-40, 44-40, 44 Special, 44 Magnum, 45 Colt. 22 Magnum or 22 Long Rifle rimfire may also be used in this category. No high power rifle category cartridges such as 30-30 WCF, 35 Remington, or 45-70 Government are allowed in this category.  

Each competitor will engage 4 sets of 10 targets (5 on the left rail, then 5 on the right rail) at four different distances. Targets are NRA style half-size silhouettes. Targets must fall over to be counted as a hit. Targets that spin or move, but remain standing on their base are a miss.

     Position #1        Chickens           40 meters

    Position #2        Pigs                  50 meters

   Position #3       Turkeys             75 meters

    Position #4        Rams              100 meters

For each shooting position and 5 target set shooters will have thirty seconds to load, after the READY command and two minutes to fire five rounds, after the FIRE command. All ammunition must be loaded through the tubular magazine.

Squadding of up to four shooters will draw for starting positions (#1-#4). #1 being the nearest targets and #4 being the most distant. At the FIRE command each shall fire 5 rounds, left to right, at the left 5 targets corresponding to the shooters position, one shot per target.

Shooters will reload 5 rounds when instructed, and on command, fire 5 rounds at the right 5 targets in the same manner.

Each time a second set (5 right targets) is completed all shooters shall rack their rifles to show clear, safety flag their empty chambers, and place their rifles in a rack.

A Down Range will be called.

When all the scores are recorded and the shooters have repainted and reset the targets they used, each shooter shall retrieve their empty rifle and move to the firing line shifted one shooting position to the right (#4 position goes to #1 position).

Shooters shall in the same manner load 5 more rounds for the next set of targets until all 40 targets have been engaged. The next four shooters in line will act as spotters and scorers. The shooter that hits the most targets is the round winner and in the event. Ties will remain ties.

Shooters may compete in either or both the pistol caliber rifle and smallbore rifle categories.

No AGE or GENDER-BASED categories.

Match Fee - Texas Peacemakers Members $15 for one category, $20 for both categories.   Non-members $20 for one category, $25 for both categories.

Guns and Ammunition:

A Smallbore Cowboy Rifle and 40 rounds plus .22 Long Rifle ammunition with plain lead or copper-plated bullets, factory rated under 1,400 fps. No Hyper Velocity loads such as "Stingers" permitted.

A Pistol Cartridge Cowboy Lever Action Rifle and 40 rounds plus of ammunition. Ammunition may be loaded with smokeless or black powder, using jacketed or cast bullets, with or without gas checks. All bullets must be flat nosed suitable for tubular magazine use. Any cartridge causing target damage or deemed unsafe will be banned.
